Spring Gardening

I'm so excited! When I went to check on my seeds, I found that my Sweet Basil and my Oregano were starting to sprout!! I noticed a few other things starting to sprout too, but nothing worth taking a picture of. :-D What an intensely gratifying moment to know that I am completely capable of not killing a plant. AND to know how much tastiness these little things will give to our food!

Seed Starting

So today I got some of my seeds underway. Eventually (meaning after Memorial Day) whatever I have will be transferred to the plot of land at my parent's house, but for now I planted seeds. Most of what I grow this year will be straight from seed and right into the ground, rather than as starters. I'm very excited though! I started a whole bunch of herbs: Lemon Basil, Sweet Basil, Chives, Thyme, Oregano, Catnip, and... something else. Oh! Dill! And then I started these tomatoes and then a random assortment of Heirloom tomatoes.

I am hoping there will be good growth. I know that it will be a few weeks yet, but I am hawking them waiting for miraculous growth... I am using Miracle Grow seed starter soil, after all!

I also got some seeds for Sweet Pea flowers and Fox Gloves, as well as some French Breakfast radishes (it was the last packet and I didn't want to miss out!). The flowers won't go in until we get to our new digs in May, and then I intend to also plant some Lily of the Valley there as well. There are some neglected perennials of some sort along the front of the house, so I am going to see if I can nurse them back to health. Otherwise I will just uproot them and start over. I will post pictures as we go along. I would take a picture but there isn't anything too interesting about a dirt filled peat pot greenhouse.

Antique Finds

I fell in love with this candy jar quite a few weeks ago when I had no money. Luckily for me, things don't move very fast at the Mill! I went back and got it two weekends ago. Don't have any place to put it at the moment, but now that we have a house to move into I know just the place! I also found these four glasses... I thought they were Carnival glass (because of the iridescence) but realized after the fact that they aren't pressed glass. Probably just lusterware, but I love them anyway. I thought they would make great desert glasses.

A few randoms

The weather here is steadily improving. My only complaint is the constant rain... but at least it isn't snow. And the temperatures are much warmer, thank goodness. Hopefully my pictures will be more colorful soon, since the trees and plants are starting to bud. Now to get rid of the overcast skies!

They're growing!

Not that I had any doubt, but whatever this is, it's growing! It's fun to capture it's progress.

Study in Black and White

These are a few pictures that I took of a landscape I've shot before. Changing the filter and cropping them often makes a totally different picture. Some of these would look awesome stretched on a canvas.
